I cannot thank you all enough for your support on Monday at the Rally to Support Health Families. On Monday, I stood before a standing room only crowd, including the Speaker of the House, fellow members of the Maryland General Assembly, constituents, impacted workers, business and faith leaders to share one of the most personal stories I've ever told.
After last Session, I started to feel more than just post-Session fatigue. My doctor diagnosed me with a rare form of leukemia. At that moment, I have to admit for the first time I was not thinking about to-do lists or others I was fighting to survive. With the support of family, friends, and colleagues I was able to take the time I need to get better. I'm happy to announce that two weeks ago I found out that my cancer is in remission, making it even clearer that if sick leave is good enough for me, it is good enough for 750,000 Marylanders.
Now more than ever we need your support to fight for Marylanders to access Earned Sick Leave. On February 10th we will have our first hearing for HB 1 in front of the House Economic Matters Committee. If you or someone you know has been impacted by this issue, please share your story. This document outlines guidance for your testimony and directions for submission. Testimony will be due Monday, February 6th and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As Session continues, I will keep you updated on this and the other issues, included ensuring Maryland's budget is not balanced on the backs of Baltimore's citizens. You can reach me to share your thoughts or questions at email@example.com or 410- 841-3303.
This year we will host our annual 46th District Town Hall on Saturday, February 4, 2017.
